Rockford Mules, Rad Owl and Deep Dark Lake

  • Palmer's Bar 500 Cedar Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55454 United States (map)

We are so über excited to welcome Rockford Mules to Palmers for what is certainly going to be a powerhouse night of rock and punk action!

About this event

With four albums of mud, song, and life under their collective boot, The Rockford Mules have been a staple of the Minneapolis music scene since 2005. In a world where true rock n roll is a distant memory, their dirty, driving, and unrelenting sound is refreshing but somehow familiar. Bassist Craig Peck and drummer Joel Habedank provide the pounding rhythm foundation in the pasture where this Mule grazes. Add in Ryan Rud and Erik Tasa’s Les Pauls and tube amps and you can imagine the sonic damage this quartet can do. Cast your mind...If Skynyrd, Waylon, and Tool all lived in Hazard County, got drunk on moonshine, and kicked Boss Hogg’s ass you are somewhere close to the attitude and life breathed into The Rockford Mules. Along with a solid local fan base the Mules have been a hit across the pond as well garnering several rave reviews and charting in the top ten on many radio stations. They have shared the stage with Shooter Jennings, Lucero, Fu Mancho along with other national acts. With music licensed on several MTV programs and also showcased on CBS’s “Criminal Minds”. Now, after a four year hiatus and a bit older and wiser, The Rockford Mules are again poised and ready to give this music scene another kick in the teeth. The Rockford Mules hold firm to the belief that rock is meant to be played with passion, volume, sweat, and honesty. This is the truth on 10.....life lived through Les Pauls. They’re back, refreshed, and you’ve been put on notice that true rock is not yet dead. You heard of tough love? This is mean love gettin’ meaner.

RAD OWL, a Minneapolis-based melodic punk rock band featuring current/ex-members of Align, Samiam, Gratitude, Marble, The Stereo, Attention, BNLX, All The Way Rider, Pocket Genius and Ghostwood Project.

Originally, we had a different drummer and we were doing kind of heavy noise rock thing. That drummer quit, and Craig and I called our old friend Joel to see if he wanted to play. After a bit of reluctance, he joined, and we got one show in before the Covid pandemic hit. With no live shows happening for the foreseeable future, I started writing songs using a bunch of synths and drum machines without worrying about how to pull it off live. At the same time, Joel started sending me bits and pieces of things he had recorded in the same manner. Before we knew it we were all trading files and recorded dozens of songs. I still consider us a basic guitar, bass, and drums kind of band, but we have introduced some other elements that have opened up some new horizons, and I think our sound is difficult to classify. We decided early on that there were no rules to what we should sound like, knowing that in the end we will sound like Deep Dark Lake. If anyone asks, I always say ‘it’s like if Kristen Stewart was a band’… I don’t even know what that means, but it seems to fit.”
