STUDENT 1~Lulseged “Lu” Afework (born October 5, 1994) is a first-generation American of Ethiopian descent, born in Maryland before moving to Minnesota at the age of three. Lu first picked a notebook up after watching 8 Mile, soon succumbing to the frustrations of being eight with no bars. He picked it back up during his junior year at Simley High School, where he was always the first name on attendance that every teacher would apologize before mispronouncing. This common misstep in cultural competency, paired with the inspiration from watching a friend rap on Facebook, led to Lu’s christening as Student 1: a reflection of a lifetime dedication to learning oneself, the world, and the game.
JANE OCTOBER~Originally starting as a producer, Jane has found her voice on her own production/beats and the more she dove into it, she hasn't slowed down since. Listening to her music, you can easily get lost, visually painting your own pictures to what she has created. That's what she wants to give, something you can get lost in.
OKNICE~ Twin Cities based rapper. A lot of feelings and a lot of bars.
FANAKA NATION~ Fanaka Nation has been consistently adding a new energy to the Minneapolis rap scene. Fusing Hip Hop with African and other world sounds, you get the album “Culture Rap 1: AFROTRAP”. From being on Soulja Boy's US tour to selling out Minnesota's legendary venue - First Avenue 7th St Entry, he is fast rising. He records under the independent label Kilimanjaro Records.
LOVE, ULYSSES~ Ulysses is a master class lyricist, and a talented producer. He is known for is clever wordplay and experimental Hip Hop.
GONKAMA~ Johnson grew up in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Gonkama has self taught himself various DAW Software in 6th grade. Gonkama first started working with the DAW FL Studio in 6th Grade, inspired by a neighbor in an adjacent apartment complex. His love of Hip Hop came when he first saw and herd his cousin beat box in the stair well of their Public housing complex, a place where a lot if Liberian kids got together during the day while their partnts were at work.
Gonkama's first music project came in the early years of High School using the DAW Software Acid Pro. His first Hip Hop performance in a venue was in His early college years at a venue called The Red Sea, which is located in the Cedar-Riverside Neighborhood of Minneapolis. Gonkama also curated this event. Since, Gonkama has performed in various venues with one of the last being in San Diego, California.
